DAY 26

Reading: Nehemiah 8Nehemiah 9

The Word - “Then he read from it [the book of the law] in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate from morning until midday, before the men and woman and those who could understand and all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law” (8:3).

Reflection: Building the walls to protect from the outside would mean nothing without a spiritual movement of revival in the inside of those walls. After over 70 years of not having the written law, once again the people of God were able to hear the word. What a delight and privilege! Two things were needed though, and they are still needed today. We must read with understanding and with attentiveness. Understanding exercises the mind, but attentiveness is about the heart that longs for the word. Revive us Oh Lord!

Prayer: “Abba, revive my soul so that it operates with the full strength of your life-giving power. Help me know and love your Word. Just as you spoke the universe into existence, use your word to enliven my soul.”
