J.O.Y. Ministry

The Joy Ministry at Heartland brings a fun and active experience for adults who are 55 years of age and older. JOY, which stands for Just Older Youth, welcomes every adult to participate in opportunities of fellowship, community, adventure, and mission for the purpose of personal fulfillment and friendship. JOY is also our mission statement as we choose to soak up all the JOY that Christ has in store for His children.

JOY Happenings

Serving with JOY

The Great Commission tells us that wherever we find ourselves in life, we are to be on missions for the Kingdom. Serving with JOY is a place where you can come and join us as we serve the Lord. There are always many opportunities to serve and a wide range of needs so that there is something everyone can do.

JOY Jaunts and Trips

JOY Jaunts are a monthly day-trip that those in our 55+ ministry participate. It may be a trip to a tasty restaurant or a day in a park. Regardless of where we go you can rest assured that lots of fun and fellowship will be had by all. We also attend annual conferences so that we can continue to grow in our faith and love of the Lord. Also, would you be interested in an Alaskan cruise or maybe a trip to the Holy Lands? Our JOY ministry schedules annual trips to different places where we can grow spiritually while enjoying God’s creation around us.

Aging Well

The truth is that we are all getting older each day whether we like it or not. Nothing in the world can stop or reverse aging, but there are things that we can do to make it better. Numerous times a year we have a day where we look at things that help us to age well spiritually, mentally, physically, emotionally, and socially. These are practical things that anyone can do but the sooner you start, the better the results.

JOY Reads

Do you love to sit down and cozy up with a good book? At JOY Reads, we pick out a great book and spend weeks reading it together. As we read, we get together regularly to discuss what we’ve learned and how it impacts our lives. This is a great time of fellowship and fun!

JOY in the Word

The Word of God is at the heart of everything we do in the JOY Ministry. Several times a year, we will get together weekly for 6-8 weeks and study God’s Word. Whether it is a topical study, a character study, or walking through a Book of the Bible, you will have the opportunity to grow in your relationship with Christ.

Pickleball

Pickleball is the hottest activity trend going on these days. Physical Activity is a big factor in Aging Well and Pickleball is a great way to stay active while enjoying yourself with friends. We have a day of the week set aside in our Student Center when you can reserve a time slot for you and your friends to enjoy a few games together.

First Thursday Luncheons and Banquets

On the first Thursday of each month, our JOY Ministry hosts a luncheon for anyone who wants to come. Sometimes we provide a full meal while other times it’s a potluck. Either way you’ll have a blast fellowshipping with others while you enjoy a tasty meal and maybe even playing a few games. We also have different speakers each time to share things that benefit all.

Sisters 'N' Stitches

Do you like to sew or making different items out of fabric. Our Sisters-‘n’-Stitches meet on Wednesday mornings and spend a few hours making much needed items that are taken all over the world on mission trips. They spend several hours making items for our mission teams to take on trips and then they close out their time with a Bible Study. Our ladies truly are making a difference all over the world with their ministry.

Sonshine Ministry

We all need “Son” shine in our lives! This ministry focuses on staying connected with members that are home-bound and residents in the local nursing homes and retirement centers. Members of the ministry team send cards of encouragement and make telephone calls and personal visits.

Sisters and Friends

Providing friendship and activities, spiritual encouragement, and helpful ideas with women who have lost their husbands. Women sharing with women; helping each other become the women God intends us to be in this new season of life.
