Reading: Nehemiah 5
Generosity - “And at my table were one hundred and fifty Jews and rulers, besides those who came to us from the nations around us.” (vs. 17).
Reflection: Love and generosity are wedded together to the degree that you really can’t have one without the other. The cross is the most generous act in the history of the world in which God spent the life of His treasured Son for us. Generosity certainly includes money as we are able, but it also includes time, energy, listening, and service. A generous church is a loving church ready to take the mountain in the unbreakable bond of love.
Prayer: “Abba, generosity is not natural to me, and I confess that without you my generosity isn’t pure because it gives in order to get something back. But if we are going to take the mountain together, we will have to be bound by generous love fueled by Gospel grace. Let it start with me.”
