DAY 31

Reading: Nehemiah 6

Fearless - “And I said, ‘Should such a man as I flee?” (6:11)

Reflection: Only love can make us into men and women who do not flee the cause of Christ when threatened. The fearless attitude of Nehemiah is not so much bravado as it is a love that treasures his calling more than his life. Fearlessness doesn’t come from assurance that things won’t go wrong, but in the evaluation that if they do, the purpose we spend our life on is worth it...Christ is worth it. Also, all the world can do is kill you and according to the Bible you already died with Christ so no big deal.

Prayer: “Abba, my heart longs to be a part of something that matters so much that I would give my life for it. I drift into apathy and emptiness without it. I declare that only the eternal, kingdom of Christ can provide such a purpose. Let me serve you out of love, not greed or fear. And let love provide courage to be the kind of person who would never flee you or the people you have given me.”
