WEEK 2 DAY 5
Made for Mission
Devotional
At the beginning of Peter's journey with Jesus, he fell to his knees in recognition of his sinfulness. But by the end, after Jesus's resurrection, we find a transformed Peter. In John 21, when he recognizes Jesus on the shore, he doesn't fall back in fear—he jumps into the water and swims toward Him with eager anticipation.
This transformation illustrates the beautiful progression of discipleship. We begin in humility, acknowledging our need for Jesus. As we follow Him, He equips us and shapes us for His purposes. And eventually, we find ourselves running toward the mission He's called us to with joy and confidence.
Every follower of Jesus is called to be a disciple maker. This doesn't mean we all need seminary degrees or formal ministry positions. Being a disciple maker simply means helping someone else follow Jesus—and we can all do that by sharing what we already know and have experienced.
The truth is, we're all discipling those around us toward something or someone. Our words, actions, priorities, and passions are constantly influencing others. The question is whether we're intentionally discipling them toward Jesus or unintentionally discipling them toward other pursuits.
God has created you for more than just existing. You were made for mission—to participate in God's redemptive work in the world. And as you step into this calling, you'll discover that you were indeed "made for more" than you ever imagined.
Bible Verse
"But Jesus said to Simon, 'Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.' And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him." - Luke 5:10-11
Reflection Question
Who are the people in your life that God might be calling you to help follow Jesus, and what is one practical step you could take this week to disciple them?
Quote
I wasn't made to be tending a grave. I was called by name, born and raised back to life again. I was made for more.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for transforming me from someone who falls at Your feet in fear to someone who can run to You with confidence. Help me to embrace the mission You've called me to. Give me courage to disciple others toward You through my words and actions. Use me to help others follow You, even as I continue following You myself. Amen.
