WEEK 4 DAY 2
The Cross FOR Us
Devotional
Before the cross demands anything from us, it offers everything to us. This is the beautiful starting point of our faith journey—not what we must do, but what has already been done on our behalf.
The cross of Christ stands as history's greatest act of substitution. Jesus, who knew no sin, became sin for us. The innocent took the place of the guilty. The righteous died for the unrighteous. The King wore the criminal's crown of thorns.
This is the heart of the gospel—not a set of instructions about how to earn God's favor, but the announcement of what God has graciously done for us in Christ. Jesus died so we can live. He paid so we can be forgiven. He earned so we can inherit.
When we truly grasp this dimension of the cross, it transforms how we approach God. No longer do we come with our hands full of our own achievements and religious efforts. Instead, we come with empty hands, receiving what we could never earn or deserve.
Today, take a moment to simply receive again the gift of the cross. Let go of the exhausting effort to prove your worth. Rest in the finished work of Christ. Before the cross calls you to action, it invites you to acceptance—of God's love, forgiveness, and grace freely given to you in Jesus.
Bible Verse
"Have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!" - Philippians 2:5-8
Reflection Question
How might your daily life look different if you lived from a place of truly believing and accepting what Christ has already done FOR you, rather than trying to earn God's approval?
Quote
The gospel is not directions of what you must do, but the news of what has graciously been done as a substitute for you received by faith.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the indescribable gift of Your Son. I confess how easily I slip into trying to earn what You've freely given. Help me to rest in the finished work of Christ today, receiving Your love and grace with open hands. Let the reality of what Jesus has done FOR me sink deeper into my heart. Amen.
