WEEK 5 DAY 1
The Purpose of the Mountaintop
Devotional
Have you ever experienced a spiritual high—a moment when God felt incredibly close? Perhaps at a retreat, a powerful worship service, or during personal prayer? These mountaintop experiences are precious gifts, but they're not meant to be permanent destinations.
God brings us to these spiritual heights for a purpose greater than our personal enjoyment. When we disconnect from our regular environment to connect deeply with God, He's preparing us for something significant. These moments aren't just about spiritual refreshment—they're about spiritual equipping.
Just as Jesus took Peter, James, and John up the mountain for the Transfiguration, only to lead them back down to serve, God brings us to mountaintops to prepare us for valleys. The disciples witnessed Jesus' glory, but they couldn't build tents and stay there. The mountain prepared them for mission.
Today, consider your own spiritual high points. What has God revealed to you in those moments? What truths has He impressed upon your heart? These revelations aren't meant to be souvenirs from a spiritual vacation—they're provisions for the journey ahead.
Bible Verse
"And when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot and Judas the son of James." - Acts 1:13
Reflection Question
What was the last significant spiritual mountaintop experience you had, and how might God be calling you to use what you received there in your everyday life?
Quote
The mountaintop to us is not a high emotional experience, although it might be. The mountaintop is a place disconnected from your regular environment, completely connected and communing with God for him to do a work in you.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for those special moments when You draw especially near. Help me to see these experiences not just as spiritual highlights but as preparation for mission. Give me wisdom to carry what You've shown me on the mountain into the valleys of everyday life. Amen.
