WEEK 5 DAY 3

Gathering in Unity

Devotional
After the disciples came down from the Mount of Olives, they didn't scatter to individual missions. Instead, they gathered together in the upper room. This wasn't just a practical decision—it was a spiritual necessity.

The text tells us they were "with one accord." Unity wasn't optional for the early church; it was essential. When believers unite around Jesus—not preferences, politics, or personalities—something powerful happens. The Holy Spirit moves among us in ways that simply aren't possible when we're divided or isolated.

Unity doesn't mean uniformity. The disciples were a diverse group with different backgrounds, temperaments, and gifts. Yet they found common ground in their devotion to Jesus and His mission. Their unity wasn't based on all thinking alike but on all putting Jesus at the center.

In our individualistic culture, we often underestimate the importance of Christian community. But gathering with other believers isn't just about attendance—it's about alignment. When we come together with one heart and mind, focused on Jesus rather than our differences, we create space for God to work in extraordinary ways.

Bible Verse
"All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers." - Acts 1:14

Reflection Question
In what ways might disunity or isolation be hindering God's work in your life and church, and what practical step could you take this week to foster greater unity with other believers?

Quote
When we are one in Jesus, when we have Jesus in common, we have the most important aspect of our lives in common. And we have a foundation to build unity on.

Prayer
Father, forgive us for the ways we've allowed division to weaken Your church. Help us to see that our unity in Christ is more important than the differences that often separate us. Give us humble hearts that seek harmony rather than having our own way. Use our unity to display Your power to a watching world. Amen.
