WEEK 6 DAY 4
The Christ We Want vs. The Christ Who Is
Devotional
It's tempting to reshape Jesus into someone who perfectly aligns with our preferences and expectations. We might want a Christ who makes life comfortable, removes all obstacles, or validates our chosen lifestyle. But true discipleship means accepting Jesus as He is, not as we wish Him to be. The real Jesus often challenges our comfort, calls us to sacrifice, and leads us down unexpected paths. Yet His way, though sometimes difficult, leads to true life and lasting joy. Our task is to align our expectations with His reality, not the other way around.
Bible Verse
'After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.' - Matthew 17:1-2
Reflection Question
What false expectations of Jesus have you been holding onto that need to be surrendered?
Quote
I want him to be the Christ that I want him to be. Not the Christ that he is.
Prayer
Jesus, help me to see You as You truly are, not as I want You to be. Give me grace to embrace Your ways, even when they challenge my preferences. Shape my desires to match Your will. Amen.
