WEEK 8 DAY 2

The Danger of Pride

Devotional
Pride often precedes a fall in our spiritual journey. It's that subtle shift when we begin to trust more in our abilities than in God's faithfulness. Peter experienced this firsthand when he boldly proclaimed he would never deny Jesus, even if everyone else did. His confidence wasn't rooted in God's strength but in his own perceived loyalty.
Pride blinds us to our vulnerabilities and creates a dangerous self-reliance. It whispers, "You've got this," when we should be praying, "God, I need You." The moment we believe we're beyond temptation in any area is precisely when we should be most vigilant.

God doesn't leave us defenseless against pride. Scripture repeatedly warns us about its danger and calls us to humility. True spiritual strength comes not from confidence in ourselves but from a deep awareness of our need for God in every moment.

Today, examine your heart for areas where pride might be creating a false sense of security. Remember that acknowledging your need for God isn't weakness—it's the foundation of genuine spiritual strength.

Bible Verse
"Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." - Proverbs 16:18

Reflection Question
What warning signs might indicate that pride is beginning to influence your spiritual life?

Quote
"Pride is something that gets in the way. It's when my self confidence is greater than my God confidence. You know, I think, man, I can handle this. This is not a problem for me. I mean, I got this right along the way. I can do all of this."

Prayer
Heavenly Father, reveal any pride in my heart that might be leading me toward a fall. Help me to find my confidence in You alone, not in my own abilities or past spiritual successes. Give me a humble spirit that recognizes my constant need for Your grace and strength. Amen.
