Community groups

What is the Vision of Community Groups?

Community Groups are designed to help believers grow in their faith and become equipped to disciple others by offering a place to study the Bible in honest, authentic community and by serving together in Paducah and abroad for God’s glory.

What is a Community Group?

A Community Group is a group of 8-12 people who are seeking to grow in their knowledge and love of God through the application of Biblical truths to their lives, through fellowship of the body of Christ, mutual encouragement, accountability and outreach oriented service in the name of Christ. As Jesus provided the example of discipleship in the context of his small group (the disciples), so too a Community Group provides a way to inspire people to become fully devoted followers of Christ.

What would happen in a “typical” group meeting?

Every group will have its own personality, but some common elements happen in most group meetings. Groups meet weekly and spend time building relationships and getting to know each other. Groups also do a study together, either a book of the Bible or a topical study that is biblical-based. The study time is facilitated by the leader, but everyone participates based on their observations and questions. Prayer is also a key element of a group meeting. A typical group meeting lasts 1.5 to 2 hours.

How will people get connected to a group?

New groups begin in September and in February.  Registration will be live in the weeks preceding.

What is the Leadership Process?

Potential leaders will fill out an application and be interviewed. They will also attend a training to equip them for leadership. Leaders must demonstrate maturity in their walk with Christ and will be held accountable throughout their time as a leader.

Why Community Groups?

Every Christian needs strong relationships with other believers. Community groups offer a relational environment where people can be challenged to grow in their faith, be loved by a small group of believers and encouraged to share their faith through word and action. As Heartland continues to grow, Community Groups are a great off campus option for community, mission and discipleship.
