WEEK 1 DAY 5

Coming Out of the Shadows

Devotional
Isolation is both a symptom of spiritual exhaustion and a barrier to healing. When we're running on empty, our instinct is often to withdraw, to hide our struggles, to pretend we're stronger than we are. But healing happens in community, not in isolation. Elijah isolated himself in the wilderness, convinced he was the only faithful one left. His perspective was distorted by exhaustion and pain. God had to remind him that there were 7,000 others who hadn't bowed to Baal. Elijah's isolation had made him forget he wasn't alone. Many of us are living in similar isolation, carrying burdens we were never meant to bear alone. We've become the pastor with no pastor, the teacher with no teacher, the healer with no one to heal us. We give and give until we're empty, but we struggle to receive care from others. Resurrection and restoration begin when we come out of the shadows and step into the honesty of our struggles. This requires finding people who are worthy of our trust - those who can handle our brokenness without trying to fix us, who can sit with us in our pain without offering quick solutions. The Holy Spirit often moves most powerfully not in moments of individual spiritual ecstasy, but when we're sharing burdens and praying for each other. When we allow others to see our struggles and care for us, we create space for God to work in ways that isolation never allows. Your brokenness isn't something to hide - it's the very place where God wants to meet you in a way you've never experienced before. But you have to let others into that sacred space of struggle.

Bible Verse
'So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. There he went into a cave and spent the night. And the word of the Lord came to him: "What are you doing here, Elijah?"' - 1 Kings 19:8-9

Reflection Question
Who in your life could you trust with your real struggles, and what's keeping you from reaching out to them for support and prayer?

Quote
Resurrection and restoration start when we come out of the shadows and come into the honesty of our struggle. And let some people who are worthy of it care for us.

Prayer
Lord, help me to come out of isolation and find trustworthy people who can care for me as I care for others. Give me the courage to be honest about my struggles and the wisdom to know who is worthy of that trust. Show me how to receive care, not just give it. Amen.
