WEEK 6 DAY 4

Embracing the Wilderness

Devotional
Nobody chooses the wilderness. It's that uncomfortable place where your normal coping strategies stop working and your usual sources of strength feel inadequate. Maybe you're there right now - in a season where prayer feels difficult, hope seems distant, and you're not even sure you can keep going. Here's what might surprise you: the wilderness isn't a punishment or a sign that something's wrong with your faith. It's actually an invitation from God to something deeper and more beautiful than you've experienced before. The discomfort you're feeling isn't just a problem to be solved - it's God's way of saying, "Run to Me." In the wilderness, God strips away the things we unknowingly depend on instead of Him. Those idols we don't even realize we have - success, control, others' approval, financial security - become exposed when life gets difficult. This process isn't pleasant, but it's necessary for true spiritual growth. The wilderness is also the only place quiet enough to hear God's still, small voice. When all the noise and distractions are removed, when you can't rely on your usual sources of comfort, you finally have space to hear what God has been trying to tell you all along. If you're in a wilderness season right now, don't despair. You're exactly where God can do His most transformational work in your life.

Bible Verse
'He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again.' - 1 Kings 19:6

Reflection Question
How might God be using your current difficulties or discomfort as an invitation to depend on Him more deeply than ever before?

Quote
The discomfort you're experiencing in your soul, whether it's anger, bitterness, depression, anxiety, emotional, mental, relational, whatever it may be, that discomfort is not simply a problem to be solved. It's an invitation from God to say, run to me.

Prayer
Lord, help me to see my wilderness season not as abandonment, but as Your invitation to deeper intimacy. Give me faith to trust Your process even when it's uncomfortable. Amen.
