WEEK 7 DAY 3
The Exhaustion Epidemic
Devotional
Here's a startling reality: we have life easier than any generation in history, yet we're more exhausted than ever. Before artificial light was invented, people naturally slept 11 hours per night. Today, we struggle to get 5, 6, or 7 hours, relying on caffeine to keep us going. Despite all our modern conveniences—dishwashers, cars, smartphones, instant everything—we're running ourselves into the ground. We've created a culture that glorifies busyness and treats rest as laziness. We've been conditioned to believe that if we stop, everything will fall apart. But these are lies. The truth is, our bodies and souls were designed for rhythms of work and rest. God didn't create us to be machines that run 24/7. He built Sabbath into the very foundation of creation—not because He needed rest, but because He knew we would. The exhaustion epidemic isn't just a physical problem; it's a spiritual one. When we refuse to rest, we're essentially saying we don't trust God to handle things without our constant intervention. We're trying to be God instead of trusting God. It's time to recognize that our relentless pace isn't sustainable or honoring to the One who created us for something better.
Bible Verse
'Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.' - 2 Corinthians 4:16
Reflection Question
What would it look like to trust God enough to slow down your pace of life?
Quote
We have life easier than any generation has ever had it. And we are more exhausted.
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for trying to carry burdens You never intended me to bear. Help me trust You enough to rest.
