WEEK 8 DAY 3

Emotions as Windows

Devotional
Your emotions aren't your enemy, but they also weren't meant to be your master. They serve as windows into the deeper workings of your soul, revealing what you value, what you fear, and where you need God's healing touch. When anger flares up, sadness overwhelms, or anxiety grips your heart, these feelings are trying to tell you something important about what's happening beneath the surface. Too often, we make the mistake of either completely suppressing our emotions or allowing them to control our every decision. Both approaches miss the point. God gave you emotions because you have the capacity to value things deeply - and emotions are how you express those values. Even God experiences emotions throughout Scripture, showing us that feelings themselves aren't the problem. The key is learning to see your emotions as invitations to pause and reflect rather than immediately react. When you feel overwhelmed, instead of just pushing through or falling apart, ask yourself: 'What is this emotion revealing about my soul's condition?' This shift from reaction to reflection opens the door for God to do His transformative work in the deepest parts of who you are.

Bible Verse
'In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.' - Ephesians 4:26

Reflection Question
What emotion have you been experiencing lately, and what might it be revealing about the deeper needs of your soul?

Quote
"Your emotions and my emotions are simply windows into the deeper things that are going on in our soul."

Prayer
God, help me see my emotions as windows into my soul rather than forces to control me. Teach me to pause and reflect when feelings arise.
