WEEK 9 DAY 4

Grace Over Performance

Devotional
When we're exhausted and overwhelmed, we often slip into a dangerous pattern of thinking: that our relationship with God depends on our performance. We start believing that good behavior earns His blessings while failures result in punishment. This transactional mindset turns our loving Father into a cosmic vending machine—put in good deeds, get out blessings. But this couldn't be further from the truth. God's love for you isn't based on your behavior; it's based on your position as His child. A father doesn't love his children because they're perfect—he loves them because they're his. The same is true with your heavenly Father. His love was secured through Jesus Christ, not through your efforts. When we operate from this grace-based understanding, everything changes. We stop trying to make new transactions with God and start living in the abundance of what Jesus already accomplished. We approach Him not with fear of rejection, but with confidence in His acceptance. We come as we are, knowing that His gentleness welcomes us exactly where we are. This isn't about lowering standards—it's about recognizing that the standard has already been met by Christ on our behalf.

Bible Verse
'When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"' - 1 Kings 19:13

Reflection Question
In what ways have you been trying to earn God's love instead of simply receiving it as His gift?

Quote
Stop trying to make a new transaction with God. Start living in the abundance of the old transaction that Jesus made for you.

Prayer
Father, help me rest in the finished work of Jesus rather than striving to earn Your love. Remind me that I am Your beloved child.
